She keeps speaking out.

Pictured with Lale Gül in VROUW magazine

Together with Lale Gül, Sybilla Claus appeared in De Telegraaf's VROUW magazine on 1 February 2025. It was a fun day, with a make-up artist who made us both look the part and a photographer (Brenda van Leeuwen) who took countless pictures of us. As it happens, Henriëtte Verbeem was there with us too — a wonderful feminist and a partner at & Female Capital, where she works hard to get more women into top corporate positions. Here is the text of the interview by Hester Zitvast. Thank you, ladies, and thank you for the coordination, Marian Konings, Deputy Art Director at VROUW.

'Don't bend; stay rebellious'

Sybilla Claus (65) is in a long-distance relationship and works as an anthropologist, journalist and writer. She has recently published *Gender Rebels*, a book that asks why things are going so badly for girls today.

As a child…

"…I didn't speak up; I was shy and quiet. My mother was overprotective. She worked as a teacher, just like my father, but at home she did everything while my father read the newspaper. I helped with the washing-up and the ironing. My little brother had to do nothing. He was the little prince, and he was raised to become one of those hotheads who fill the streets now. At secondary school I lost that shyness. I threw myself into the subjects of injustice, poverty and animal suffering."
